Update February 2026

Feb 28, 2026

February is a short month, keep that in mind

One-Shot

Honestly a lot has happened this month, but not in the way I thought it would. As I sit here digesting I'm too overwhelmed to put it into words. Normally I write a first draft earlier in the week prior to month end to allow time for revisions. But things didn't quite workout that way this month, and that is ok. This time I am writing it all at the eleventh hour in ONESHOT, so bear with me friends.

I really value this habit, and it would be more beneficial for me to post (even with minimal revision), than not post anything. Sometimes with habits, you just need to make a bid for your identity and make sure you don't break the chain.

One thing I'm really proud of this month is that I started asking for help. That has always been hard for me (and I am slowly starting to realize why this is the case). I want to congratulate that effort so that inevitably when I come to a point again where I need help and am refusing to ask (for one reason or another), I can look back and say hey, you did that before and it was SUPER BENEFICIAL, you can do it again.

No one makes it on their own, our society does a great job at making us forget that. It might even be fair to say societal expectations perpetuate the myth that if we just work harder, and grind it out, we can 'get to the next level' entirely on our own. That is largely untrue. We all need help. Approaching others with compassion and understanding (helping) is a highly valued way of being, it is not something to shame or dismiss.

I started taking another class at the Visual Art Center, and I'm intending to have a tangible product from doing that. Let's see if he can do it folks!

I'm in the process of looking into spaced repetition to consolidate learnings. Right now I just started experimenting with anki. So we will see if it sticks. (Details in Articles below) Thanks again Joe!

I definitely stretched myself too far this month, and inadvertently started too many things at once. That is a periodic inevitability of being me haha. One outcome of my asking for help though is that I believe I have a good idea on how to narrow my focus.

It feels like it was a tough month for a lot of people I know. You are all in my thoughts. The weird thing about having multiple loved ones suffering from disparate experiences is that it makes us more connected. And in ways I can't describe that feels empowering.

I think it's also safe to say that I have been in an extended period of identity evaluation for some time now. This is both exciting and challenging.

Anyways, catch ya on the next one.

Advice

  • Art books are not textbooks meant to be memorized and worked through. They are better used as references for when you want a refresher and an example of an answer to a specific question about how you want something to look. THEY SHOULD HAVE PLENTY OF ART IN THEM!
  • "If you want something to be good, just spend 100 hours on it. You might be surprised at what you can do" <- A quote from a teacher that I suspect I am incorrectly paraphrasing and therefore will not officially attribute it.
  • Light comes from above <- Refactoring UI
